The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The most crucial ingredient to entering into the “light” of God and continuing to grow is confession and repentance of sin. First John 1:9 is emphasizing the truth that God will, because of His great character, secure His own by His continual cleansing of all future sin. God is faithful and will always do what is right. What a great comfort we have as children of God, knowing that He will do exactly what He says He will. The issue for the children of God then becomes the question of “will we believe and trust Him enough to let go of our pride and confess our sin?” If we say we are His children let us be honest. Confession is cleansing!
