Overcoming Lust
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5: 4
Lust can be defined as the urgent, anxious, self-seeking desire that is passionate, impulsive, and emotional, which starts by thinking about what is pleasurable to us to bring satisfaction. People are all different and have many different desires, so if we are being real with ourselves we must acknowledge we all lust for things at times in our lives. 1 John 5:4 tells us. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.” The people of God have the resources to overcome lust. Prayer, confession (Eph. 6:18, Proverbs 28:13), are a good start in the process of overcoming our worldly desires. Surrendering to the word of God, the will of God and the ways of God are all our reminders of the victory we have through Jesus (Matt. 4:10; Mark 8:34, 1 Cor. 6:19). God’s promise of restoring us should inspire us to always remember we are His, we are not of this world and we can overcome through His son Jesus Christ!
