Responsibility
But Ruth said, “Do not plead with me to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you sleep, I will sleep. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord do so to me, and worse, if anything but death separates me from you.” Ruth 1:16-17
Ruth was a woman who was devoted and committed to God. Her motivation was to be loving and kind in taking responsibility for the care of her mother-in-law. Why did Ruth take responsibility for something that she did not have to? Ruth had a calling from God and her life reflected the nature of God – loving, giving and kind. Ruth was also blessed which showed her mercy, strength and steadfastness. All these qualities together showed great responsibility. When we demonstrate responsibility in our lives rather than demanding our rights, we move into a position that allows God to bless us and we then can be a blessing to others. Ruth chose to be responsible and God bless her beyond her wildest imagination. You and I have that same opportunity to choose responsibility and receive the blessings of God. Let’s be responsible!
