Self-Control
The quality that each of us have inside to make or achieve the goals that God has set before us is self-control. Peter told us “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, . . .” 2 Peter 1:5-6. We are our biggest enemy, it is not the world because through Jesus Christ we have overcome the world. Self-control is a battle of the mind. Our mind controls our thoughts, our desires, and our passions. The word “temperance” is the word that is used to describe “grabbing hold of” or to grasp. It is referred to when we hear the term “get hold of yourself.” Our battles in life are fought in the thought process of our mind. There is no conflict so severe as the conflict of our mind. To overcome the thoughts that we struggle and to restore peace let us focus on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
